Because I am nothing if not a pack animal, here are the top ten signs that you're reading a
twoweevils fic (swiped from all over the flist):
ETA: Special bonus sign -- if you go back and read a story a second time, you may note changes because we can't leave anything alone.

- The characters will rarely "say" anything. They will speak and then they will move. For example:
"Yes, Gunny," Tony gritted his teeth, enjoying the role of ingenue. "Thank you, Gunny.". - If there is a line in which someone "said" something, you can be pretty sure that K wrote it, i.e.,
Gibbs' cock rose insistently against his hand. "Not with my boat?" he said roughly, and heard DiNozzo's breath begin to come faster. "You were planning to tell me this when, Tony?" - If there isn't a happy ending, you can be assured that the story will have a sequel that has a happy ending.
- Even if it's not strictly a slash story, Tony will have the hots for Gibbs and/or vice-versa.
- There will be symmetry. Every action will have an equal and opposite reaction, or something from the beginning of the story will be mirrored at the end of the story.
- Even for the smallest story, one or both of us will have spent a ridiculous amount of time doing research to ensure authenticity on something that nobody but us would ever notice. Sometimes it's just for background on something that is never mentioned in the actual story - like how far it is from the NCIS office to the nearest coffee shop.
- Tony will think in italics while he's conversing or interacting with someone.
- The story is written in the third person and probably incorporates more than one character's POV.
- One character will be unsure of another character's motive or meaning.
- There will almost always be a turn of phrase, character name, or reference from a book, movie, tv show, song, subject, food, or beverage, that we are fond of. Sometimes, these creep in without me even knowing it because I am a sponge.

Date: 2006-01-20 02:13 pm (UTC)A friend & former writing partner once made the mistake of recommending a bio of Billy Wilder to me. In it, there's a story about I.A.L. Diamond suggesting that they do the final draft of The Apartment. This was several months after the movie had been out. I kept trying to use this as a defense for my need to constantly edit, but it just annoyed her, which is one reason we no longer write together. But to my mind, it's the perfect anecdote.
