There is some irony in the collision of these two items in my flist this morning:
lunaris_ linked to Writing Tips for Non-Writers Who Don't Want To Work At Writing.
Someone else posted a story in which the very first sentence violated the first Writing Tip!!!!! I don't know what other crimes the writer perpetrated because I read no further.
*headdesk*
Although I don't consider myself a Non-Writer (because writing is, like, my job), at least two of the Tips are ones that I use a lot -- reading the story aloud to make sure it sounds right and, when I'm not sure how to spell something, I type it into my Google toolbar and wait for the "Did you mean?" to tell me I'm a knob. I also read good writers and try to identify what makes them good.
Most punctuation issues, specifically those related to dialogue, are K's province. I really should try to keep those rules in my head, but it's like multiplication. It didn't make an impression when my brain was soft and now there's no room because of all the Monty Python sketches I memorized. Must read those Tips again.
